If you’re using a data connection, check you have enough data allowance (although we recommend using WiFi if possible). In the tutorial below we’ll show you how you can go offline in the Spotify app for smartphones (Android, iPhone, etc).
Note 1: You can go offline on Spotify for only 6 hours, after that time you get back online.
Note 2: To activate private session on Spotify for smartphone, it is important that you are not using the Spotify Connect feature, that is, the music must be playing on your smartphone before you can go offline in Spotify.
- Find and open the Spotify app on your smartphone.
- Touch the “Your Library” option in the lower right corner of the screen to access your library of music and playlists.
- Touch the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen to access Spotify settings.
- Scroll down and look for the “Private Session” option.
- Tap the slider so it turns green to go to Spotify’s offline mode.
Going offline in the Spotify app for computer
Are you listening to music in the Spotify computer application? The desktop music player version also has an option to go offline and hide from your friends which song you are currently listening to. In the tutorial below we’ll show you how you can go offline on Spotify through the computer app.
- Start the Spotify app on your computer.
- In the menu in the upper left corner click the “File” option and then click “Private Session” to go offline in Spotify.
If you have Premium, you can download your favorite songs, albums, playlists, and podcasts, so you can listen to them without an internet connection.
You can download up to 10,000 songs on a maximum of 5 different devices.
Note: If you use the free service you can download podcasts on mobile and tablet.
Note: An internet connection is initially required for downloading. You need to go online at least once every 30 days to keep your music and podcasts downloaded.

- Go to the playlist you want to download.
- Switch Download on .

Set the app to Offline Mode
Note: In Offline Mode, you can only play music you’ve downloaded.
- Open Spotify.
- For Mac: In the Apple menu at the top of the screen, click Spotify.
For Windows: Click File in the Windows menu at the top of the screen. - Select Offline Mode.
Download music and podcasts
- Go to the playlist, album, or podcast you want to download.
- Tap to download.
Note: On Android, tap Download on to download an album or playlist.

Note: Podcasts you download are automatically saved to Your Library .

Download with mobile data
By default, downloading with mobile data is disabled. To enable it:
- Tap Home .
- Tap Settings .
- Tap Music Quality.
- Under Download, switch on Download using cellular.
Tip: We recommend downloading over WiFi to avoid mobile data charges.
